Lubbock Christian University designated hitter Mason Donohoe was named second-team all-South Central Region this week by two organizations: the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association.

Donohoe, a junior from Round Rock Cedar Ridge, batted .366 with six home runs and 37 runs batted in. This season was his second at LCU after he transferred from Odessa College.

Tech track & field

Texas Tech middle-distance runner Moad Zahafi is one of 10 men's athletes on the watch list for The Bowerman trophy, which is presented annually to the top male and top female in college track and field.

Zafahi has the world lead in the 800 meters this year with a time of 1 minute, 43.69 seconds that he ran at the Tom Jones Memorial on April 15 in Gainesville, Florida. The time is the third-fastest in the event in collegiate history.

Zahafi is a senior from Casablanca, Morroco. In the Big 12 championships last weekend, he ran the fastest 800 time in qualifying, but was scratched from the finals with "soreness" as a precautionary measure, Tech coach Wes Kittley said.

Next up for Tech athletes is the NCAA West Regional on May 25-28 and the NCAA outdoor championships June 8-11. Combined events are not contested, so Tech's Callie Jones has clinched a berth in the NCAA championships with her No. 5 ranking in NCAA Division I in the heptathlon.

Tech announced Thursday that it will have 36 women's entries, most in the nation, and 27 men's entries in the regional.

A Tech source had confirmed the game to A-J Media on Wednesday.

Georgetown was 6-25 last season and 0-19 in conference play.

The 10 games are scheduled from Nov. 29 through Dec. 4. Five teams from each conference will host a game.
