Lance Barilow, who was second in command of Baylor's football strength and conditioning program this season, on Sunday was named Texas Tech's head strength and conditioning coach.

Barilow is another member of the Baylor staff following new head coach Joey McGuire to Tech. His one season at Baylor ended after the Bears won the Big 12 championship game Saturday, beating Oklahoma State 21-16.

"Lance will be another great addition to our staff," McGuire said in Tech's announcement. "It was quickly apparent in our time together this past season at Baylor that he is ready to run his own strength and conditioning program.

"For those that believe I am high energy, just wait until you meet Lance. He sets the bar in that category and will be a great resource for our student-athletes."

Barilow was on the LSU staff from 2016-19, moving up from an intern to associate director of strength and conditioning for football in 2018. He also worked with LSU's beach volleyball and soccer programs.

In 2020, he was associate director of strength and conditioning at Kansas.

Barilow also has four years of experience as a private sport performance coach in Wisconsin and Illinois, Tech's announcement said. He is a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 2007-09 after he was a three-year football letterman at Carroll, an NCAA Division III program in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He was an offensive lineman from New Lenox, Illinois.

He earned a bachelor's degree from Carroll in 2007.

Tech also announced three other hires to the strength and conditioning staff: Brandyn Musgrave, also coming from Baylor, and Brandon Lee and Owen Rogers, both being retained from the previous staff. Musgrave and Lee will serve as assistant strength and conditioning coaches. Rogers has been a post-graduate intern this year.
