Tasty pigs and happy kids at the Ross County Fair Market Swine Sale

CHILLICOTHE― 4-H students showed off their hogs Thursday night for the chance at winning big at the Ross County Fair Market Swine Sale.

Ross County businesses banded together to purchase the swine, including local banks, car dealerships, politicians, restaurants and more.

No tears were shed at this year's hog sale, as buyers were scheduled to pick up the hogs the next day.

Chloe Wills, a 16-year-old Southeastern High School student, was the 2022 Senior Showman Winner. Her hog, Randy, weighed in at 261 pounds and was sold to North Fork Animal Clinic for $3,000, or $11.49 per pound. The packer price was 71 cents per pound.

"I'm really upset. I love that pig a lot," Wills said. "He's sweet. He's hilarious. His personality is just the best... when you walk into the barn he's always the first one to get up."

Wills wanted to thank her parents for their support, as well as swine showmanship judge Trevor Kirkpatrick. She said he has helped her improve and has found pigs for her.

"He's helped me become a good showman and I never would have been here without him," Wills said. "On the mic when he was giving his speech, he said that I could show for him any day."

She plans to save the money for college.

Reserve champion Hudson Drake sold his hog for $7,500 at a weight of 281 pounds, or $26.69 per pound. Over 20 buyers joined together to purchase the hog.

Adena Health System also announced an extra $1,000 scholarship for every species grand champion.
