Lauren Sigmon had a love and passion for art and design from a young age and majored in Art History at the College of Charleston before moving back to Greenville after college.

“I ended up working in resource development/fundraising for over 14 years, working for some wonderful non-profit organizations and building relationships with so many great people. While it was a rewarding career, my heart was pulling me towards my passion of interior design. After much thought and soul searching, I decided to start my own business, Lauren Sigmon Interiors. I am so excited because I can continue to build relationships with people and do something that fills me up!”

“The first room you see when you walk in our front door is our living room because of this, I wanted it to stand out. The actual color is Grandview by Sherwin Williams. I have always been drawn to a jade green and now I am so happy to have it on my walls,” says Lauren.

Lauren added, “This room also includes two of my favorite fabrics from Anna Spiro Textiles, used on the pillows. I love the patterns and how they combine with the other colors and textures in the room. I’m also drawn to symmetry and how the wall with the fireplace balances with the same mirrors, tables, and lamps on either side. The mantel on our fireplace is original to our old home, now newly renovated. Many items in this room have a story. The Audubon above the mantel was from my husband’s grandfather’s collection of Audubon prints, and all of the other pieces of art are from local artists.”

3 tips to achieve this look

1) Don’t be afraid of color. So many homes right now are all one neutral color. Don’t get me wrong, I love a creamy, white wall, but adding pops of color or finding a room or a few rooms to paint a color or add wallpaper, makes your home more exciting! Find the colors that you are drawn to and put some paint swatches on the wall. Get out of your comfort zone.

2) Reupholstery is a good option right now. I knew I wanted a new sofa/settee with camel colored fabric and a box pleat skirt for our living room. However, with shipping delays, new upholstered pieces are taking so much longer to ship. I found this camel-back settee for $60 and had it recovered locally. It only took a few weeks to get it completed and I love the way it turned out!

3) Layers add interest. In this space, there are lots of layers- a striped wool rug layered over a seagrass rug, framed art on the walls, a coffee table with a colored tray, vases and books, and finally, a secretary filled with more books, vases, and small pieces of art. Find the things that you probably already have in your home to create layers. If you don’t have these layering pieces, seek them out at antique stores, art galleries, home goods stores, and bookstores.
