Taissa Farmiga to Return for ‘The Nun 2’

Taissa Farmiga is returning to star in “The Nun 2” for New Line Cinema and will reprise her role as Sister Irene in the horror franchise that’s part of “The Conjuring” universe of films, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Michael Chaves,” who directed “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” is on board to direct the sequel to 2018’s “The Nun” that also starred Farmiga. She will also join the previously announced Storm Reid in the cast.

The first “The Nun” film was directed by Corin Hardy and is a prequel to “The Conjuring 2.” It explored the origins of the terrifying nun figure introduced, with Farmiga playing a young nun on the verge of performing her final vows and sent to Romania to investigate the death of a young nun and the malevolent force behind another demonic nun.

Plot details for “The Nun 2” are being kept under wraps, but Akela Cooper wrote the screenplay with current revisions by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing.

New Line has already set a release date for “The Nun 2” for September 8, 2023.

Atomic Monster’s James Wan and The Safran Company’s Peter Safran will produce, and they’ve produced all eight of “The Conjuring” universe movies, bringing the franchise to over $2 billion in global box office. Judson Scott will oversee for Atomic Monster with Michael Clear and Gary Dauberman executive producing.

“The Nun” specifically made $366 million worldwide and is the highest grossing of the movies in the “Conjuring” universe.

Farmiga stars on Julian Fellowes’ HBO series “The Gilded Age,” and she’s currently shooting the second season. Some of her other credits include “The Hole,” “The Mule” and “What They Had.”

Farmiga is represented by Anonymous Content, CAA, and Peikoff Mahan Law Office.
