Tabor topples Redfield for Class B Legion state championship

Aug. 4—GROTON — The middle innings sent Tabor to top of the Class B heap.

Tabor Post 183 scored eight runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to power a 10-6 win over Redfield in Tuesday's Class B Legion state championship game.

Redfield built a 3-1 lead after two innings, but Tabor's offense produced a 9-5 advantage after five innings to pull away. Tabor racked up 13 hits, with Trent Herrboldt and Dustin Honomichl recording three hits apiece. Honomichl drove in a pair of runs.

Riley Rothschadl and Kaleb Kubal had two hits apiece, while Nolan Dvorak, Kaden Kozak and Nate Scieszinski each had a hit.

Carter Uecker started the first 3.2 innings. He allowed eight hits, five runs (one earned) and struck out three batters. Herrboldt earned the win after throwing 3.1 relief innings. He struck out two batters, allowed two hits, one run and walked two batters.

Trailing 3-1 in the third inning, Honomichl's two-run double knotted the score at 3-3 and ignited Tabor's offensive surge. Scieszinski's RBI single put Tabor ahead 5-3 and capped off the four-run inning.

In the fourth inning, Kubal's RBI double and Dawson Bietz's RBI groundout extended the advantage to 7-3. In the fifth inning, Tabor tacked on two more runs on a Redfield error and a Dvorak sacrifice fly. Kozak's RBI single in the sixth inning rounded out Tabor's scoring.

Tabor earned wins over Vermillion (4-3), Madison (13-0), Redfield (5-3) and Big Stone City (12-0) on its way to the championship.
