A sweet fundraiser to aid Youth Advantage for low-income families

Jun. 11—Ninety-seven degrees outside? Seems like a good time to visit the St. Croix River Valley and eat ice cream.

A new fundraiser for Youth Advantage, a Stillwater-based nonprofit that helps low-income families pay registration fees for sports, arts and educational enrichment, gives anyone who buys a $20 "Ice Creams Dreams" card the chance to buy-one-get-one-free small cone at participating ice cream shops.

The offer is good Monday through Thursday at these six ice-cream parlors: Gloria's To Go, Leo's Malt Shop and MN Nice Cream in Stillwater; Mabel's Ice Cream in Bayport; Nita Mae's Scoop in Marine on St Croix, and Selma's Ice Cream Parlor in Afton. The card is good for one use at each shop through September, excluding holidays.

Youth Advantage works with students in the Stillwater Area Public School district. It recently expanded to include mentoring groups for girls and math and reading/comprehension tutoring for school-age kids.

All of the card's $20 cost goes to Youth Advantage and its programming. Cards are available for purchase at the participating ice cream shops or at Cub Foods in Stillwater.
