SUV crashes into Mahanoy Township rehabilitation center

May 25—MAHANOY CITY — A Mahanoy Township rehabilitation center was damaged when an SUV crashed through the front wall around midnight Sunday.

State police at Frackville said a 41-year-old Mahanoy City woman, who they did not identify, was driving a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer west on East End Road when she fell asleep and lost control. The SUV went off the road and onto the north berm, where it struck Silver Pines Treatment Center at 5 White Owl Drive.

The front end of the SUV was partially into a room at the southwest corner of the building.

Mahanoy City firefighters responded to the call along with Mahanoy City EMS. No injuries were reported.

Police said the woman was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and that their investigation into the crash is continuing.

Damage to the building was evident in the daylight hours as a large hole remained uncovered.

Attempts to reach officials at Silver Pines was unsuccessful on Monday.
