Suspect Pulled From Stolen Atlanta Police Car Just Before It's Hit by Train

A traffic stop turned into a police chase after a man drove off in an officer’s patrol car, before crashing it onto train tracks in Atlanta, Georgia, early on January 28. Video showed officers pull the suspect out just before a train hit the car.

Bodycam footage released by the City of Atlanta Police Department shows an officer conducting a traffic stop at around 2:10 am.

While the officer was speaking with the driver, an uninvolved person got into the officer’s patrol car and drove off. The police department’s Air Unit quickly ascertained the location of the stolen patrol car and helped officers follow it, the department said.

Aerial footage shows the fleeing car overturn on train tracks at the intersection of McDonough Boulevard and Hank Aaron Drive. Officers removed the suspect from the vehicle seconds before it was hit by an oncoming train.

The City of Atlanta Police Department said the suspect, Mickal Parker, was charged with theft, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, obstruction, and damage to city property, and was transported to Fulton County Jail. Credit: City of Atlanta Police Department via Storyful
