Suspect charged in bomb scare at Hyannis restaurant

HYANNIS — Police have arrested a man in connection with a bomb scare that led to the evacuation of a Route 28 restaurant Friday night, authorities said.

The suspect, a 29-year-old Oak Bluffs man, was picked up on Martha's Vineyard by state police.

Around 6:45 p.m. Barnstable police officers went to FOGO Brazilian BBQ at 39 Iyannough Road (Route 28) on a call about a suspicious package. Police were told that someone had called the restaurant and said a travel bag left behind would explode if it were touched.

The restaurant and nearby area were evacuated by the Barnstable Patrol Force, the Hyannis Fire Department, the Yarmouth Police Department and Massachusetts State Police. The State Police Bomb Squad inspected the bag and found that there was no danger.
