Superstore fans have been facing a double-whammy of disappointment recently, as not only did the much-loved NBC sitcom come to an end in March after six seasons but a planned spin-off was cancelled too.

Fortunately, actress Nichole Sakura, who played Cheyenne Thompson in Superstore, has already got a new project lined up after the Bo & Cheyenne spin-off, which she would have starred in, was dropped.

Deadline reports that Sakura has joined the cast of new ABC comedy pilot Maggie. The show follows a young woman named Maggie (played by The Mindy Project's Rebecca Rittenhouse) who is trying her best to cope with life while coming to terms with her psychic abilities. She might be able to see other people's futures, but her own present life is nothing short of chaos.

Sakura will reportedly be playing Louise, Maggie's lifelong best friend. Deadline describes Louise as "funny, single and ready to mingle, all the time".

"But make no mistake, Louise gets knocked down repeatedly and somehow she will always get right back up with an even better attitude, full of hope and belief that her life is going to somehow work out," the character's synopsis continues.

Maggie will also star Grey's Anatomy's Ray Ford, Westworld actor Leonardo Nam, Life in Pieces actress Angelique Cabral, The Carrie Diaries star Chloe Bridges, Reno 911's Kerri Kenney, Pitch Perfect star David Del Rio and There's Something About Mary actor Chris Elliott.

Maggie has been created by Life in Pieces and Family Guy writer Maggie Mull alongside Life in Pieces creator Justin Adler, while Natalia Anderson, who has directed episodes of black-ish and grown-ish, has been lined up to direct the pilot.

The sad news that Superstore's spin-off had been cancelled came last month, after scriptwriter Bridget Kyle announced that the planned series had been pulled.

"Unfortunately, yesterday NBC notified us that they're not going forward with the Superstore spinoff," she said. "So, it will just have to live on in our hearts and on my hard drive."

The show would have focused on Superstore's Cheyenne and her husband Bilbo 'Bo' Derek Thompson and their life with their young daughter, Harmonica.

Superstore aired on NBC in the US, and season 6 will air on ITV2 later in the year in the UK. Netflix UK has the first five seasons.
