Jonathan Kent – the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane – is set to come out as bisexual after falling in love with a Japanese male reporter in the fifth issue of “Superman: Son of Kal-El."

A new twist: On Monday, DC Comics teased fans with images from the upcoming issue showing Jon Kent and his partner, Jay Nakamura, in a romantic setting. The new issue, written by Tom Taylor with art by John Timm, will be available on Nov. 9.

  • Superman's symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice,” Taylor said in a statement. “Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics."

  • DC Chief Creative Officer and Publisher Jim Lee said that the upcoming issue is "another great example" of how DC emphasizes the power of their multiverse storytelling.

  • We can have Jon Kent exploring his identity in the comics as well as Jon Kent learning the secrets of his family on TV on Superman & Lois,” Lee said. “They coexist in their own worlds and times, and our fans get to enjoy both simultaneously.”

New LGBTQ+ superhero: Jon Kent is now joining the growing list of LGBTQ+ superheroes under DC, such as Tim Drake, Kate Kane (Batwoman), Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Victoria October, CNN reported.

  • In an op-ed piece for NPR, American writer and podcaster Glen Weldon said the rise of representation in comic books is a “good thing” since more readers can now see themselves in their favorite superheroes – or, at least, a variant of them.
