Super Bowl celebrations in Kansas City light up National Weather Service radar
Kansas City, Mo., was ablaze with excitement following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win on Sunday – and the celebrations were so festive, they even showed up on weather radar.
On Sunday evening, the National Weather Service (NWS) Kansas City took to Twitter to show what Kansas City looked like “erupting in celebration, as detected by our radar!” In the post, fireworks can clearly be seen growing increasingly bigger and brighter.

Andy Bailey, an NWS Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, Missouri meteorologist, tells Yahoo Lifestyle that the celebration popping up was not a unique occurrence as radar is very sensitive.
“We saw the same thing in 2015 when the Royals won the World Series,” Bailey said. “...They show up for the Fourth of July when everyone [is] shooting fireworks as well...[the] radar can pick up everything from dust to insects to birds to precipitation in the atmosphere.”
