Summer food program offers free meals to kids throughout Aiken County

May 21—Kids can have free meals every weekday until school starts thanks to the Summer Food Service Program.

The Summer Food Service Program is locally sponsored by the Serenity Charity Club and the City of Aiken Housing Authority. On the state level, it is administered by the South Carolina Department of Education and funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, according to the department of education website.

Food is available to children at the following times and locations:

9-10 a.m. and 12:30-1:30 p.m., Brothers and Sisters, 132 York St.;

10-11 a.m., Hahn Village, 100 Rogers Terrace;

9-10 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m., Helping Hands, 100 John Elliott Lane;

9-10 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m., Smith-Hazel Recreation Center, 400 Kershaw St.;

8:30-9:30 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m., Salvation Army, 640 Laurens St.;

7:30-8:30 a.m. and noon to 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., DIG, 315 Chester St., Williston;

8-9 a.m. and 1-2 p.m., Team Punisher Boxing Club, 636 E. Buena Vista Ave., North Augusta;

11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Aiken County Recreation Center, 917 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville;

11 a.m. to noon, Harrison-Caver Park, 4181 Augusta Road, Clearwater; and

11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Amelia's, 132 Church St., Graniteville.

The Summer Food Program provides lunches to children ages 18 and younger, and will run Monday through Friday June 6 through Aug. 12.
