Summer concerts expected to heat up the Victor Valley

Summers in the Victor Valley are usually time for grilling, traveling, swimming and outdoor concerts, such as the 2nd Annual Concert in the Park Series, hosted by the City of Victorville.

Beginning in June, and on select Fridays through mid-July, a variety of bands and Victorville Sings contestants will perform between 6 and 8:30 p.m. at Hook Park.

“We are excited to bring back this free, family-oriented event that showcases our local singing talent in a fun, enjoyable atmosphere,” said Victorville Mayor Debra Jones.”We invite you to come out and enjoy the great food and live music.”

The ‘80s band Memberz Only will kick off the four-week concert series on June 17 followed on June 24 by the Calypso, Soca and Caribbean band “Upstream.”

On July 8, The Silverados will fill the park with country and classic rock tunes. The Beatles tribute band Hard Day’s Night will close out the series on July 15.

Each family-oriented concert event will include an arts and craft station, KidsZone, and food vendors. Visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and to arrive early to reserve first-come, first-serve lawn seating.

During the concerts, TXT2VOTE to select your favorite Victorville Sings contestants. Finalists will be selected from the first three concerts, and the champion will be crowned at the final concert on July 15.

Apple Valley

The Sunset Concert series will feature several bands at the Civic Center Park Amphitheater, which will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. on select Thursdays in June and July.

The series kicks off on June 16 when the band Phazze One will perform Top 40, R&B, and classic oldies.

Dubbed the West Coast's Little-Big Band' that brings style, the Phat Cat Swinger will perform on June 23. The popular swing revival group has played across the High Desert, Southern California, and Disney's California Adventure theme park.

Music fans are expected to be “all shook up” on June 30 when the Tribute to Elvis band will appear on stage.

On July 14, the band Southern Spirit will deliver a setlist filled with country songs delivered by band members Joe Eiffert, Jaye Sooter, Bobby Jo Bearden, and Teresa Clark Eiffert.

Closing out the series on July 21 is Latin Express, a homegrown family band founded in 1972 by Victorville’s Jesse Camarena,

For decades, the band has played Latin, rock, oldies, and pop music at the San Bernardino County Fair, Victor Valley College's Cinco de Mayo festival, and other events.

Hesperia

Hesperia Recreation and Park District officials are planning for its Bobcat's Summer Concert Series scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. every Friday in August.

The park district is also in the planning stages for the Hesperia Days Music Festival on September 17.

Musical performers for the concert series will soon be announced, said park district staffer Sarah Hauser, who added that an opening band will start each show followed by a tribute band.
