Sugar Factory to open in downtown Indianapolis in April with a celebrity guest DJing

Sugar Factory American Brasserie with over-the-top desserts, ginormous smoking cocktails, large flower walls and colorful decor is opening its downtown Indianapolis location April 13, the company announced.

And, true to form with the celebrity sightings that helped to propel the chain’s growth, the sweets emporium and restaurant will launch with star power.

"The Masked Singer" host Nick Cannon is in for a DJ set at the April 23 grand opening.

The store and restaurant is opening at Circle Centre Mall in the 49 W. Maryland St. space that had been Palomino Restaurant & Bar, which closed in June 2019.

The family-friendly venue that will accommodate special gatherings from bachelorette parties to corporate events, includes a candy store with hundreds of options, and indoor and outdoor dining for brunch, lunch and dinner.

The 9,657-square-foot space is made for Instagram, from decor to entrees, desserts and drinks.

Its restaurant menu includes a $150 24 karat gold meal of a gold leaf-covered burger served with gold-dusted fries and a chocolate milkshake made with Ferrero Rocher golden truffles, topped with a gold-draped chocolate-glazed doughnut, whipped cream, a chocolate macaroon, a gold-dusted chocolate vanilla ice cream bar and more truffles. The shake is served in a chocolate mug dripping with edible 24 karat gold.

Comparatively pedestrian are the Sugar Factory Rainbow Sliders, served on colorful buns with American cheese, pickles, crispy onions, a signature sauce and a complementary duck to take home. ($25)

Other options include the Big Cheesy Angus beef burger topped with melted white cheddar, mac and cheese, and bacon, served with barbecue sauce on a toasted potato bun ($20); brick chicken ($28); and New York strip steak with Parmesan fries ($45).

Its decadent milkshake lineup ($12-$31) features Campfire Spiked S'mores, the Tie-Dye and the Carmel Sugar Daddy, all sumptuously decorated and served in chocolate-covered mugs.

Also on the dessert side, the King Kong Sundae, with 24 scoops of ice cream covered in sprinkles, gummy bears, caramel sauce, hot fudge sauce and giant whirly pops, serves 12. ($99)

Smoking cocktail goblets are made with celebrity-owned spirits, including tequila from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Pitbull’s vodka, 50 Cent’s cognac, Bruno Mars’ rum, and tequila from Nick Jonas and John Varvatos. Also available in non-alcoholic versions. ($40, $34 without the booze)

The indoor dining area seats 184, the bar area accommodates 12, and the outdoor patio seats 32. Also, a coffee and sweets-focused Pretty in Pink Cafe space with floral ceilings, a candy heart wall, and its own menu has indoor and outdoor seating.

The restaurant is taking reservations on OpenTable.com.

Sugar Factory will operate from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m, Monday through Thursday; from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday; from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday; and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday.
