You may not be ready to think about the back-to-school season when it feels like summer just began, but that doesn't mean it's too early to start planning. After all, Apple is getting ready—the tech giant has launched its annual back-to-school offer, which includes free Apple AirPods when you buy an eligible Mac or iPad with education pricing.

The deal, happening now through September 27, is available to current and newly accepted college students and their parents, and for faculty, staff and homeschool teachers of any grade level. Eligible participants get access to education pricing and free Apple AirPods with select purchases, as well as 20% off the AppleCare+ service program.

Education pricing starts at $899 for the MacBook Air, 10% off the model's $999 opening list price. Ultra-lightweight and stocked with Intel 10th generation processors and a new keyboard, executive editor TJ Donegan called it a "fantastic laptop that's just about perfect"—there's a reason we named it the best laptop you can buy.

This tablet is so feature-packed, we think it can replace a laptop for many users.

Students who prefer a tablet can pick up our all-time favorite tablet, the iPad Air, which starts at $549 with education pricing (a $50 cut from the regular $599 price) and is so feature-packed it can serve as a viable laptop replacement for many, according to our testers. It features a great display, an intuitive operating system and a top-notch, 8-hour battery life.

Purchasing either of these models (as well as most other Mac or iPad models) gets eligible participants free Apple AirPods (a $159 value). Students interested in optimizing their audio experience, however, can pay $95 to upgrade their AirPods to the AirPods Pro model, which we called the best true wireless earbud option for iPhone owners thanks to their upgraded audio performance, excellent noise reduction, custom eartips and water-resistant design. The AirPods Pro normally retail for $249, so getting them for just $95 is a steal as far as we're concerned.

Summer may just be getting started, but don't sleep on this deal—with rare price cuts on top-performing products, you'll want to be ready come fall.
