Children are creative and some like to express it in artwork.

Arts Alive encourages that expression with Kids’ Art Rocks. Families may submit work for a gallery show at Tibbits Opera House which has been hanging since May.

On Tuesday, the young artists, families and friends were invited to the Kids’ Art Rocks reception.

Of the 120 entries, 15 were selected by a jury and framed for the year-long lease program. Supportive Branch County businesses lease the art work to display. Students collect their piece at the end of a year.

A highlight of the evening is the People’s Choice Award. Each one attending was given the opportunity to vote for their favorites in the lease program. The winners received gift certificates of $100, $75 and $50 respectively, to Craft Out Loud in Coldwater

First place went to Tanner Paul from Jennings Elementary, Quincy, for his painting of a night sky.

Second place to Madisyn Porter, a Union City kindergarten student, with a piece she titled “Sophie.”

Third place to Natalie Bean, a Jennings Elementary student with a watercolor, “Turtle the Sea Dragon."

Families milled around, finding their child’s work and admiring others and enjoying a snack provided by Arts Alive.

Emmy Stanton, an Anderson Elementary student, found her painting of three pumpkins which she titled “Dots.” The second grader explained that it took her a long time to finish the project because she likes to be careful.

Evelyn Garn, a Jefferson Elementary student, painted “Night Sky in St. Lucia.”

“The reason it’s called ‘Night Sky’ is because I painted it in St. Lucia,” she said.

Evelyn likes art so much that for her seventh birthday party, she invited friends to a painting party and each went home with their own creation on canvas, said her mother, Megan Garn.

Carter Losinski, an Anderson Elementary kindergarten student, submitted a crayon piece titled “Squeaky” — his take of a kola bear.

“He loves art,” said his mother, Christi Losinski.

Stephanie Burdick, of Arts Alive, told the crowd they will keep offering Kids' Art Rocks as long as there is interest.
