“The Parent Teacher Group was seeking a fundraiser so the Rudolph Run and parade was suggested in conjunction with the live nativity and Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus at the fire station,“ said Justin Hite, co-chairman. ”Ashley Bryant is the co-chair with me. My wife, Kayla, is a member of the PTG. We want to make it an annual event and spread Christmas cheer.”

“Visitors can participate in the run, watch the parade, which ends at the school, and then visit the live nativity and go to the fire station to see Santa,” Hite said.

Hite said the has already received 30 inquiries about the parade.

Registration for the parade begins at 3:45 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church which steps off at 4:15 p.m. Registration will end at 4 p.m. Candy is permitted if contained in a wrapper. Candy should be tossed underhanded to the curb or walk along the vehicle and hand it to the children. All entries are subject to approval of the parade committee. The parade route will be on Seventh Street S.W. and move along South Bodmer Avenue and end before the Strasburg Franklin Schools. There is no charge to enter the parade.

Sponsorships for these two events range from $150 to $2,500. Donations can be sent to Strasburg Elementary, 140 N. Bodmer Avenue or for more information call Ashley Bryant, co-chairperson at 330-806-2939.

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be at the Strasburg Fire Station, 211 Second Street NE to greet children from 5 to 7 p.m. Each child will receive a gift and refreshments will be served. Photos with Santa can also be taken.

Strasburg Mayor Steve Smith said the event at the fire station has been held for the past 12-years and the live nativity for 11 years.

“We work (committee and churches) together on the event and this year the Rudolph Run and parade has been added. A child will receive a gift at the fire station and we will award one large prize and four smaller prizes to five children,” Smith said.

“Councilwoman Kathy Burrier pretty much does all the planning for the event at the fire station,” he said.

The live nativity is sponsored by the churches in the village and the event at the fire station is hosted by the village.
