Still standing: Sir Elton John to headline Glastonbury 2023 as final tour finishes up

The rocket man is planning to rock on — festival style — before it’s all said and done.

Although Sir Elton John is said to be winding down his life on the road with his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour,” he will be booked and busy as a headliner at Glastonbury 2023, which was announced Friday.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s debut at the famous southwest England festival is purportedly his final U.K. show on June 25.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be headlining the Pyramid stage,” John said in a statement, as per The Guardian. “As the end of my ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour’ comes into view, there is no more fitting way to say goodbye to my British fans. They have been beyond brilliant, and have supported me through all the highs and lows of my career.… I can’t wait to embrace the spirit of the greatest festival in the world.”

The “Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour” originally kicked off in September 2018 in Pennsylvania with a plan to stop in over 300 cities worldwide. The tour was suspended in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the five-time Grammy winner’s trek resumed earlier this year in New Orleans.

“We will be closing the Festival and marking this huge moment in both of our histories with the mother of all send offs,” festival organizer Emily Eavis said a statement. “We are so very happy to finally bring the Rocket Man to Worthy Farm!”

The 75-year-old “Tiny Dancer” crooner performed what he said was his final U.S. show at Los Angeles’ Dodgers Stadium with a star-studded evening featuring past and current duet partners Kiki Dee (“Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”) Dua Lipa (“Cold Heart”) and Brandi Carlile (“Simple Things”).

However, he showed up as the evening’s entertainment for Saks Fifth Avenue’s splashy holiday window unveiling last week.
