Steve Ellis hired as newest addition to Jeff Brohm's Louisville football staff: Reports

It looks like Steve Ellis is the next piece to Louisville’s football coaching staff.
According to multiple reports, first by on3.com’s Matt Zenitz, Ellis has been hired to be the Cardinals’ cornerbacks coach, leaving East Carolina after two seasons. During that time, he led the Pirates’ defensive backs to a record 25 interceptions, the highest game average (1.19) since the 2013 and 2014 seasons (1.23).

Ellis, a three-year starting cornerback at Nicholls State, spent one year at South Florida as the defensive backs coach under former Louisville coach Charlie Strong in 2019 and the previous 10 years at Middle Tennessee State. There, the Mississippi native served as the Blue Raiders’ cornerbacks coach, starting in 2009, was the co-defensive coordinator for three years (20011-14) then became the recruiting coordinator in 2015. Five of his players at MTSU earned all-conference honors in 2009 with the school making a bowl game in his last four seasons.
Ellis began his coaching career at his alma mater in 2003 and worked with safeties before moving over to be the linebackers coach (2004-05) then the program’s defensive coordinator (2006-08). He’s the latest addition to Jeff Brohm’s Cardinals staff that currently includes Ron English (defensive assistant), Garrick McGee (wide receivers), Chris Barclay (running backs), Mark Ivey (defensive assistant), who was retained from the previous coaching staff, Richard Owens (offensive line) and Ryan Wallace (tight ends). Brian Brohm, who coached quarterbacks and was the offensive coordinator at Purdue, is expected to join the staff as well.
