Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County schools to dismiss early due to expected snow

With snow forecasted to start falling Friday afternoon in the Shenandoah Valley, school divisions in Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County will be dismissing students early.

Both Waynesboro and Augusta County announced that they will close two hours early Friday.

Meanwhile, Staunton will have a staggered release time. Dixon preschool will dismiss at 12:30 p.m., elementary schools in Staunton will dismiss at 1 p.m., Staunton High School will release students at 1:40 p.m. and Shelburne Middle School will dismiss at 1:55 p.m.

Augusta County Public Schools also announced there will be no extracurricular activities Friday.

The National Weather Service released a winter weather advisory for the area. The last update, Friday morning at 4:06 a.m., showed snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches between 4 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday.

NWS said to plan on slippery road conditions that could impact the evening commute.
