State troopers are asking for help identifying a man who was struck by a car and killed late Wednesday evening.

According to the Highway Patrol, at 11:54 p.m., officers responded to a fatal collision on N.C. 198 near Recycling Drive, between Earl and Patterson Springs.

Troopers say a 2005 Honda Accord was traveling south on N.C. 198  when it collided with a man walking in the road. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver does not face charges.

As of Thursday, troopers have not been able to identify the man killed in the crash.

"He had nothing on him, no ID, wallet. We have no idea who this gentleman is. We have canvassed the area, tried talking to people living in the area but have not found anything at this time," said Master Trooper Raymond Pierce III.

The Highway Patrol is now looking for any tips that might help identify the man.

He is described as a white man approximately 55 to 60 years old with gray hair and approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall with a medium to stocky build. He was wearing a brown shirt with yellow stripes, blue jeans and work boots at the time of the crash.

Anyone with information that could possibly assist in identifying the unknown man is asked to contact the North Carolina Highway Patrol at 800-572-8765.
