State board approves more area solar projects

Sep. 19—DEFIANCE — Solar projects in Defiance, Erie, and Hardin counties have been approved by the Ohio Power Siting Board.

—In Defiance County, the 109.9-megawatt Mark Center Solar project in Mark Township got the state board's approval. Large arrays of solar panels will occupy 665 acres within an 877-acre project area.

—In Erie County, the 125-megawatt Wheatsborough Solar project in Groton Township was approved. Large arrays of solar panels, as well as a 50-mw battery storage system, will be built on 690 of 940 acres leased by the developer within a 968-acre project area.

—In Hardin County, the 300-megawatt Hardin Solar Energy III project was approved for construction in Roundhead, Marion, and McDonald townships. Large arrays of solar panels will be built on 1,030 acres within a 1,534-acre project area.

Upon issuing those decisions last Thursday afternoon, the state board also approved construction of the Columbia Gas of Ohio Northern Columbus Loop — Phase VV Pipeline project in Delaware and Union counties. It is the final phase of a long-term project. A 24-inch steel, high-pressure pipe will be laid across 12 miles, and a 16-inch diameter high-pressure pipeline will be laid across four miles.
