Stars of the Weekend: Santos, Herry propel Taunton boys basketball to win over Franklin

TAUNTON— Taunton boys basketball continues to dominate the Hockomock League.

The Tigers took down Franklin 70-61 on the road Sunday to stay undefeated in league play and improve to 6-1 on the season.

Senior Trent Santos again led the way for Taunton with 25 points while fellow senior Tristan Herry added 23, 15 of which came in the second half. Senior Faisal Mass scored 11 points against the Panthers while sophomore Troy Santos had seven.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Franklin 69, Taunton 28

The Tigers fell to the Panthers on the road in Hockomock action Sunday and are now 1-7 on the season.

Senior Liv Gannon and freshman Chelsea Bousquet both led the Taunton offense with six points.

HOCKEY

Pope Francis 4, Bridgewater-Raynham 1

The Trojans fell to the Cardinals in non-league action Saturday on the road at the Olympia Ice Center and are now 3-7-1 on the season.

Senior defenseman Mike Dolan scored the lone B-R goal, assisted by junior defenseman Justin Peters. Junior goalie Richie Popson made 24 saves in net for the Trojans.

Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk 4, Old Rochester/Fairhaven 1

The Falcons bested the Bulldogs in South Coast Conference action at the Falmouth Ice Arena to stay undefeated and improve to 8-0 on the season.

WRESTLING

Taunton 72, Silver Lake 6

Methuen 45, Taunton 33

The Tigers went 1-1 at the Methuen Quad meet Saturday, defeating the Lakers but falling to the host Rangers in non-league action and are now 10-4 on the season.

Brandon Mendes (120), Xavier Sandoval (138), Ben Mandeville (145), Christian Balmain (160), Ethan Harris (182) and Logan Frank (220) each won both of their respective matches, while Michael Leskoski (106), Ryan Jones (113), Anthony Vieira (126), Brian Haen (132), John Mandeville (152), Elijah Prophete (170) and Robert Tran (285) all scored a win.

Bridgewater-Raynham: Fourth Place at Woburn Invitational

The Trojans finished fourth as a team at the Woburn Invitational meet Saturday afternoon with five of their wrestlers placing in their respective weight classes.

Dominic Silva (285) took home top honors in the heavyweight category, while in their own weight classes, Brent von Magnus finished second, Jack Alves and Nathan Leach placed third and Christian Curley finished fourth.

Bristol-Plymouth 54, Canton 6

Bristol-Plymouth 39, Cohasset 36

The Craftsmen had another strong showing Saturday as they swept the Cohasset Quad by beating the Warriors, Bulldogs and Skippers in non-league action to improve to 14-2 on the season.

Matt Keefe (120), Isaiah Aaron (132), Jacob Bettencourt (145), Chris Morse (152), Jon Benner (160), Cody Reed (170) and James Schmidt (220) each won all three of their respective matches, while the team win over Canton marked coach Bob Gay's 400th career win.
