Bringing in 47% of this week's fan vote, Topsail basketball player Rhett Britt is the StarNews Athlete of the Week.

The freshman, who also plays baseball, was nominated for his 27-point performances against North Brunswick last Tuesday. Another 20-point performance would follow as the Pirates played Hoggard on Friday night.

Juliet Burroughs, New Hanover swim: The sophomore took home gold in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle at Saturday's Mideastern Conference Championship swim meet.

Khalil Genwright, Laney:  The senior shot 67% from the field and scored 24 points in Laney's win against West Brunswick. The senior was at it again on Friday when he scored 29 points as the Bucs defeated North Brunswick.
