StarMed announces baby formula giveaway. Here’s how to get free supply in Charlotte

A Charlotte-area medical group will distribute baby formula for free to families impacted by the recent baby formula shortage that has created issues in the region and around the country.

StarMed Healthcare plans to give away formula Tuesday at two of its Charlotte locations, the group announced on social media Friday.

“We keep some (formula) on-hand for various reasons,” StarMed said on Twitter. “Our team has run inventory and we’re going to hand this out in a smart way to those in most need Tuesday.”

The formula will be “100% free,” StarMed said, and no registration is required. It will be available at StarMed’s locations at 4001 Tuckaseegee Road and 5344 Central Ave. starting at noon Tuesday.

Multiple types of formula will be given away, including:

  • 20 oz. cans of Gerber Good Start lactose-free powder formula

  • 32 oz. bottles of Similac Advance “Ready to Feed” formula

  • 28.2 oz. cans of Nestle NAN Pro powder formula with iron

  • 24-count boxes of 8.45 oz. bottles of Gerber Good Start GentlePro “Ready to Feed” formula

The announcement comes as Charlotte families, and many around the country, scramble to find adequate amounts of baby formula amid a shortage spurred by a major recall and lingering supply chain issues.

One recent study named Charlotte as one of the hardest hit metro areas in the country by the shortage.
