The Standard 10: Maleik Williams

Aug. 14—What he's done

Williams has led the Silver Bluff offense as its starting quarterback since his freshman season, and last year he accounted for more than 2,500 yards of total offense while earning Class AA All-State honors and leading the Bulldogs to the Lower State championship.

He passed for 1,791 yards and 16 touchdowns to go with 782 rushing yards and 13 more scores, and time after time he turned in big plays when his team needed a spark.

Why he's here

He's here because he's the four-year starting quarterback for the reigning Lower State champions, and he's here because he has saved some of his best performances for his team's most important games.

He's also here because he won't just play quarterback this season — he'll also play defense as he helps fill in for a unit that lost eight seniors.

What to expect

Expect Williams to play with the same poise and demeanor that he's displayed since he was a freshman, and expect him to be the leader that guides his team through the new Region 3-AA gauntlet.

Expect him to wrap up one of the great careers in Silver Bluff's storied history, and expect him to justify any and all awards lists that include his name.

Also, expect his younger teammates to take the lessons they learn from him — both as a quarterback and as a selfless leader playing both ways — as they move forward in their careers and pass the torch to the next class.
