The Standard 10: Kanaan Ligons

Aug. 14—What he's done

Ligons, a starter since his freshman year, has been one of the leaders on the offensive and defensive lines for a Ridge Spring-Monetta team that will rely heavily on both fronts this coming season.

Ligons led the Trojans in pancake blocks last season on his way to earning All Region 3-A and Class A All-State recognition. He was named Region Offensive Lineman of the Year, and defensively he accounted for 86 tackles (23 for loss) and four sacks.

Why he's here

The 6-foot-2, 301-pound senior is here because he's the best lineman on a Trojans team making a switch to the I formation on offense and relying on its defense to live up to its end of the deal to complement that.

He's also here because his combination of size, speed, power, production and work ethic has caught the attention of plenty of college coaches. He has received offers from schools like Furman, Charleston Southern, Army and several others.

What to expect

Expect Ligons to continue to be a tone-setter for the Trojans as they play this season with a new look. Expect him to use his physical gifts and technique to open lanes for the Trojans' runners, and expect him to punish opposing offensive linemen and ball carriers.

Also expect more offers to come his way, and expect the college coaches who were the first to reach out to remind him of that as more and more big schools take notice of his abilities and potential.
