Power figures: The film, which stars Simu Liu as the titular superhero, took in $13.3 million in its fourth weekend and overtook fellow Marvel film “Black Widow” as the year’s domestic box office leader, reported CNN.

  • The latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the highest-grossing domestic film of 2021 so far with a $197.1 million take, while “Black Widow” comes at a close second with $183.5 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

  • “F9: The Fast Saga” takes the third spot at $172.9 million, while “A Quiet Place Part II” placed fourth with $160 million and “Jungle Cruise” retained fifth place with $115 million.

  • With an additional international take of $167.2 million, “Shang-Chi” has now grossed $364.3 million globally.

Upcoming competition: “Shang Chi” is expected to gain tough competition in the coming weeks with the release of Sony's comic book film "Venom: Let There Be Carnage," which is set to hit U.S. theaters on Oct. 1.

“Shang Chi” will be available to stream on Disney Plus on Nov. 12 at no additional cost to subscribers as part of a special event called Disney Plus Day.
