Bali may be at the heart of Indonesia’s hospitality industry, but Jakarta is home to some of the country’s most luxurious hotels. And on Dec. 3, another global brand is opening an outpost in Indonesia’s vibrant capital.

Located in the city’s Central Business District, also known as the Golden Triangle, the 17-story St. Regis Jakarta features 282 guest rooms and suites and 164 luxury residences designed to reflect Indonesia’s storied history and rich culture. The new property also boasts eight food-and-beverage concepts, a spa, two ballrooms, and an outdoor swimming pool.

“The soundscape of Indonesia was the inspiration behind the design of The St. Regis Jakarta, which was conceptualized by New York–based interior design firm, Champalimaud,” Marc Handl, the hotel’s general manager, told Travel + Leisure. The property also tapped Czech Republic–based glassmaker, Lasvit, to create a stunning chandelier in the lobby. Lasvit’s designs can also be found in some of the world’s most iconic hotels, such as Morocco’s La Mamounia, The Peninsula Paris, and Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo.

“Every aspect of the design is meticulously researched and carefully considered, weaving in the richness of the destination and the uniqueness of the city,” Handl explained.

Accommodations are by G.A. Group (their latest project is Atlantis the Royal, Dubai, which opens early next year). The rooms feature Indonesian motifs and modern influences. Custom-made beds adorned with batiks by Indonesian fashion designer, Iwan Tirta, pay homage to the country’s heritage, while exquisite materials such as premium Italian marble, walnut woods, and velvet fabrics create a sophisticated ambiance. Handl added that the outdoor spaces, such as the main arrival area and swimming pool, are decorated by artwork curated by renowned landscape architect Bill Bensley. The hotel’s extensive art collection is actually one of its highlights, as it reveals the work of some of Indonesia’s most promising artists, curators, and art visionaries.

The property will also offer a taste of authentic Indonesian flavors and culinary experiences showcasing local ingredients. But guests will also find many of The St Regis’s signature offerings here, such as afternoon tea, the brand’s renowned butler service, and the evening Champagne sabering ceremony.
