St. Petersburg is getting its own comic con

St. PETERSBURG — Tampa has a comic con, as do Jacksonville, Orlando, Lakeland, Pensacola and St. Augustine.

St. Petersburg can now be added to that list.

The St. Pete Comic Con is scheduled for Jan. 8-9 at The Coliseum and, according to organizers, it’s the first time such an event has been held in that city.

“It’s long past time for St. Petersburg, a world-wide destination city, to have a high-end, annual comic convention,” Dewey Caruthers said in a prepared statement issued via a news release. “There has been an enthusiastic welcome from comic con fans, cosplayers and comic-related vendors locally and statewide.”

Tickets are $20 for one day, $30 for a weekend pass and $100 for a VIP ticket and can be purchased online at stpete.floridacomiccons.com/tickets.

Featured guests include Erica Schroeder, who voices characters on Pokemon, Sonic the Hedgehog and Yu-Gi-Oh, and Mike McFarland, who voices characters on My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan and Fullmetal Alchemist.

There will also be panel discussions and cosplay contests.
