St. Clair’s Icy Bazaar returns to the city’s downtown this week for a long weekend of chilly, festive fun.

Activities began Thursday, and continue through Sunday, largely around Riverview Plaza.

According to the event’s Facebook page, ice sculptures with live carving will continue from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Fireworks are also set for 8 p.m. Saturday, launching from Palmer Park. Community leaders have said previously the segment attracts hundreds to town.

“Everything thing we’re hearing from the community, they absolutely love this event," said Bryan Ulatowski, president of the St. Clair Chamber of Commerce, which backs the event. "Excited about the fireworks again, considering we had them last year and it was a big hit. We’ve got many more carvings this year. I think we’ve got 34 carvings, so there’s going to be much more for them to watch and to see get done.”

Kaitlin Pfropper, a professional ice carver, is commissioned to carve multiple ice sculptures for local businesses during the opening night of St. Clair's Icy Bazaar event at the Riverview Plaza in St. Clair on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022.

The first-ever speed carving contest is slated to start at 5 p.m. Saturday at the plaza.

There will also be live entertainment three days of the bazaar weekend in the plaza courtyard: Greg Hind from 2 to 5 p.m., Paul & Oates form 5:30 to 8 p.m., and the Gobies from 8:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday; and the Meldrum Brothers from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

“It’s electric. Kids eyes light up when they see these chainsaws go. This year, we’re adding like a fire-breather … so I think it’s going to be a unique situation," Ulatowski said. "Then, with all the bands playing, it’s going to be nonstop, especially Saturday.”
