SRP Federal Credit Union makes donation to Aiken County public schools

Feb. 28—The Aiken County Public School District received a check for $165,255 from SRP Federal Credit Union with funds received through the debit card program at the board of education meeting Feb. 22.

Mike Rosier, director of communication for ACPSD, said the partnership began when SRP Federal Credit Union developed a new way to get involved with the community.

"SRP Federal Credit Union developed a new and exciting way for community members to meet their personal financial needs while also supporting a local high school of their choice with every purchase they make through the creation of the SRP high school affinity debit card program," Rosier said. "Each high school within Aiken County Public Schools has its own affinity debit card and the partnership also includes the Aiken County Career and Technology Center."

SRP President Woody Shuler said the amount donated has grown over the past few years. In fact, with the most recent check, SRP has donated almost half a million dollars to Aiken County public schools.

"I think that's fabulous," Shuler said. "The parents of all of these schools embrace this and each time they use it to purchase something we give back a nickel. It accumulates over time. It doesn't sound like much, but it accumulates over time. The parents really embraced it. These are parents using these cards. We appreciate the partnership, I know how hard it is to get funds for schools, I was involved myself with PTO, always scratching and clawing trying to get extra money for things. We hope this is a big help to the school system each year and we're thrilled it's almost half a million dollars since we began."

Local high schools participating in the program include Aiken County Career and Technology Center, Aiken Scholars Academy, Aiken High School, Midland Valley High School, North Augusta High School, Ridge Spring Monetta High School, Silver Bluff High School, South Aiken High School, Wagener Salley High School, Horse Creek Academy, Mead Hall Episcopal School, South Aiken Baptist Christian School, Barnwell County Career Center, Barnwell High School, Blackville-Hilda High School, Jefferson Davis Academy, Williston Elko High School, Fox Creek High School, Strom Thurmond High School and Wardlaw Academy.
