Squeaky wheel: After critical comments, Adam Thielen gets a couple of TDs for Vikings

The only question for the Minnesota Vikings coming into Sunday’s game was which disgruntled receiver would get the most targets.

Adam Thielen got the first score. A week after comments critical of the Vikings offense, and that seemed to be critical of Kirk Cousins as well, Thielen scored a 15-yard touchdown in the first half against the New York Giants to give the Vikings a 10-0 lead. Last week against the Bears, Thielen had a pair of catches for 6 yards and then expressed his unhappiness with the offense. Thielen was over 100 yards against the Giants before halftime.

Then Thielen added to his big day with another touchdown in the second half. Not a bad day.

Stefon Diggs was also unhappy. He reportedly wanted a trade, and he didn’t deny that. But Diggs got a 16-yard catch on Minnesota’s second play of the game. He also joined in the touchdown celebration with Thielen. The Vikings had a much more wide-open offense in Week 5, though playing against a bad Giants defense helped with that. Cousins had 278 yards passing in the first half.

The Vikings’ offense has been very conservative this season, and that led to some angst with their star receivers. But as we usually see, when star receivers complain about not getting enough catches, that gets corrected in a hurry.
