Spring Street Senior Lofts readies for first residents
Feb. 24—LIMA — Affordable senior housing community Spring Street Senior Lofts is expected to welcome its first residents this spring, marking the end of a years-long effort to build more senior housing in Lima.
The 88-unit apartment complex, which will begin leasing to seniors 55 years and older who meet income eligibility guidelines, features one- and two-bedroom apartments designed specifically for seniors, complete with an on-site fitness center, computer lab and resident support services.
Kitchen and bathroom cabinets, for example, were designed with removable fronts so residents who use wheelchairs can more easily access their sinks, New Lima-Housing for the Future's Scott Frenger said on Wednesday.
The apartments come furnished with a full range of appliances, full-size closets, hardwood floors and a laundry area with washer and dryer hookup.
Individual rents will be determined by a resident's income and U.S. Housing and Urban Development fair market rent guidelines.
The $14.7-million project by New Lima-Housing for the Future and MVAH Partners took years to come to fruition. The non-profit group's first attempt to secure funding through the Ohio Housing Finance Agency was unsuccessful, but a subsequent application in 2019 secured $12 million in housing tax credit funding.
The group later received a $1 million grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati's affordable housing program and a $5,000 donation from Premier Bank, formerly First Financial Bank, to complete the project.
The apartments are located on the site of the former YWCA.
