Sports scores, highlights: Case field hockey wins 9th straight; Durfee has 1st loss

The fall sports season is underway in the Fall River area.

Take a look at the highlights from Friday's local high school action:

Boys soccer: Atlantis Charter at Tri-County

SCORE: Atlantis Charter 2, Tri-County 2

LOCATION: Tri-County

DATE: Sept. 30

RECORD: 4-2-1

HIGHLIGHTS: Atlantis Charter's goals were scored by André Coelho-Filho and Jeffery Duarte. Coach Nathan Mello said, "A game where we did not come out ready and did not capitalize on our opportunities led to this tie. Nevertheless, coach Madeira and I are proud of our boys' efforts."

Boys soccer: Westport vs. Avon

SCORE: Westport 7, Avon 0

LOCATION: Westport

DATE: Sept. 30

RECORD: 7-0-1 (Mayflower: 3-0-1)

HIGHLIGHTS: Hunter Brodeur  had 2 goals and 1 assist; Landen Novo had 2 goals; Tyler Arraial had 1 goal and 1 assist; Will Quinlan had 1 goal and 1 assist; Travis Carvalho had 1 assist; Marcos Dutra Africano had a goal; Noah Amaral had 3 saves; and Elijah McGonigle had 8 saves for a combined shutout in net. "The team's younger players, including 6 underclassmen called up from the JV squad, played substantial minutes and did a terrific job of contributing to the win," said coach Chris Parker.

Girls soccer: Bishop Connolly at Avon

SCORE: Avon 4, Bishop Connolly 0

LOCATION: Avon

DATE: Sept. 30

RECORD: 1-3 (1-1 in conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: "We continue to work on building confidence in our passing game," said coach Ronald Rodriguez.

Girls soccer: Atlantis Charter at Bristol Aggie

SCORE: Atlantis Charter 2, Bristol Aggie 1

LOCATION: Bristol County Agricultural High School

DATE: Sept. 30

RECORD: 3-1-0

HIGHLIGHTS: Zoey Ramos opened her scoring for the season with a goal at 15 minutes. Bristol Aggie evened the score with a goal by Aubrie Lindo. It took until midway through the second half for ACS’ striker Destiny Rodney to rachet up her 4th goal in 4 games, another game winner. With an injury to Bella Dos Reis, Sophia Esteves was called upon and gave a strong display at fullback, earning her the Player of the Match, said coach Joe Keiser.

Girls soccer: Westport at Avon

SCORE: Avon 4, Westport 1

LOCATION: Avon

RECORD: 1-7 (0-3 in conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: Seventh-grader Brooke Crocker scored her first varsity goal, assisted by Julia George.

Field hockey: Durfee at Dighton-Rehoboth

SCORE: Dighton-Rehoboth 2, Durfee 0

LOCATION: Dighton-Rehoboth

DATE: Sept. 30

RECORD: 7-1-1 (4-0 SEC)

HIGHLIGHTS:  This was Durfee's first loss of the season. "Today was a tough one for us," said coach Nicole Henrique. "We struggled to switch our game play on a grass field. D-R was fast and capitalized on that. We didn’t quit until the end and applied a lot of pressure but unfortunately couldn’t get it done."

Field hockey: Westport vs. St. John Paul II

SCORE: Westport 1, St. John Paul II 1

LOCATION: Westport

DATE: Sept. 30

RECORD: 1-4-1

HIGHLIGHTS: Saint John Paul scored with 4 seconds remaining in the first quarter off a shot from Lili Crofford. Molly Bazinet scored off a corner for Westport, unassisted.

Field hockey: Joseph Case vs. Old Rochester

SCORE: Case 2, Old Rochester 0

LOCATION: Joseph Case

DATE: Sept. 30

RECORD: 9-0-0 (SCC: 6-0-0)

HIGHLIGHTS: Case field hockey came up with a big conference win against ORR at home 2-0. Case scored both goals in the 3rd quarter. The first goal was from Emma Bouchard, assisted by Lexi Yost; and the second goal was by Megan Smith, assisted by Emma Bouchard. Case had solid defensive play by Kaelyn Lecomte, Brooke Perron, Addie Carreiro and Rylie MacDonald as well as great midfield play by Brooke Orton and Shelby Hajder. Case goalie Anna Michaud had one save for the shutout. "This was a well-played game by both teams," said coach Kacie Martel.

NEXT UP: Case hosts Apponequet on Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Girls volleyball: Joseph Case at Wareham

SCORE: Joseph Case 3, Wareham 0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-8)

LOCATION: Wareham

DATE: Sept. 30

RECORD: Joseph Case, 8-1 (6-0 in South Coast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cardinals rolled to another impressive win over league opponent Wareham. Olivia Silva had another great game with 26 assists. Hannah Storm had eight kills and Jamie Moniz contributed  8 kills. Ava Silva chipped in with five blocks. Loagan Brown and Sophia Conos continued their great work in the back row.

NEXT UP: Joseph Case hosts Old Rochester on Monday.

HIGHLIGHTS:  Caroline Puccini had 2 aces and 13 digs; Abigail Vieira had 4 aces, 8 kills and 7 digs; Cali Leger had 5 aces and 10 digs; and Kaelyn Rose had 12 assists and 11 digs.

HIGHLIGHTS:  Ethan Tho had 39, Brady Sullivan had 40 and Dan Matuszek had 44.
