Sports scores, highlights: Durfee hoop gets first league game against Bridgewater-Raynham

The winter high school season is underway for Fall River area teams.

Take a look at highlights from Thursday's local high school action:

Boys basketball: Durfee vs. Bridgewater-Raynham

SCORE: Durfee 74, Bridgewater-Raynham 50

LOCATION: Durfee

DATE: Jan. 26

RECORD: Durfee, 7-5

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers collected their first conference win of the season, beating league opponent Bridgewater-Raynham at home. Jeyden Espinal led Durfee with a team-high 25 points. Eric Lucas added 13 points while Avonte Lamore and Jaleale Simmons each finished with 10 points. Alexis Montilla and Devontae Stewart rebounded well in the win. "Great collective effort from the team tonight. We really locked in on the defensive side and rebounded effectively and were really able to get things rolling on offense. Proud of the ball movement and shot selection tonight. Coaches and I continue to encourage the group to play with consistency and establish our identity moving forward."NEXT UP: The Hilltoppers face Snowden International School on Saturday.

Boys basketball: Diman vs. Bristol-Plymouth

SCORE: Bristol-Plymouth 66, Diman 55

LOCATION: Diman

DATE: Jan. 26

RECORD: Diman, 5-10 (3-4 in Mayflower Large)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals lost at home against league opponent Bristol-Plymouth. Anthony DeJesus paved the way for Diman with a team-high 20 points. Freshman Sakai Silver chipped in with 10 points. "BP was the better team tonight and deserved to win," Bengals head coach Tom Librera said. "We played three games in forwards days and we were a step slow. Happy with the effort, [but] on to Blue Hills."

NEXT UP: Diman face Blue Hills  on Tuesday.

Wrestling: Durfee at Southeastern

SCORE: Durfee 54, Southeastern 18

LOCATION: Southeastern

DATE: Jan. 26

RECORD: Durfee, 3-14 (1-3 in Southeast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers won their third bout of the season, beating Southeastern on the road. Durfee received key wins by Alicia Warren, Jordan Mazyck, Seth Chuon, Carlos Gomez, Lehi Ramos, Ladaynian Mendes, Kayden Chaney, Lenzly Celestin, and Calfeny Moreira.

Swimming: Seekonk/Somerset Berkley/Case vs. Old Rochester and Apponequet

SCORE: Boys, Old Rochester 339, Seekonk/SBR/Case 240, Apponequet 197; Girls, Seekonk/SBR/Case 343, Apponequet 287, Old Rochester 278

LOCATION: Mayers Natatorium

DATE: Jan. 26

RECORD: Seekonk/SBR/Case Boys,  0-4; Seekonk/SBR/Case Girls, 3-1

HIGHLIGHTS: The Seekonk/SBR/Case boys and girls co-op swim teams took first in both boys and girls 200 medley relays. In the 200 freestyle, Nich Cavic took first (1:49.52) and Victoria Nightingale took third (2:29.10). Chris Strycartz took first (2:11.93), Emily Tonino first (2:24.06) and Grace Baldassi took third 2:40.82 in the 200 IM. Addison Abreu took first in the 100 butterfly (1:00.73) and Emily Tonino placed first in the 100 freestyle (1:00.23). Nich Cavic finished in first in the 100 freestyle (4:55.02). In the team's 200 freestyle relay, Seekonk/SBR/Case girls took first and the boys placed third. Addison Abreu and Victoria Nightingale took first and second, respectively, in the 100 backstroke. Lucas Zonfrillo and Michal Cabral placed second and third in the backstroke. Strycartz took home a second individual first place in the 100 breaststroke. Both boys and girls team took first place in the last event of the night in the 400 freestyle relay (4:38.10 and 4:45.56).

Girls Indoor Track: Case vs. Bourne

SCORE: Case 58, Bourne 18

LOCATION: Greater New Bedford

DATE: Jan. 25

RECORD: Case, 5-0

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cardinals girls track team completed their undefeated season and captured the South Coast Conference Gold Division championship with a win over Bourne Wednesday. Olivia Silva won the shot put with an incredible and D5 state qualifying throw of 34'9". Brooke Perron and Lily Picard completed the sweep for Case with throws of 29'4" and 25'10" respectively. Shelby Hajder (10.6), Hannah Santos, and Maeve Richardson swept the hurdles. Freshman Emma Bouchard won both the 55 and the 300. Megan Smith took first in the 600 and tied with teammate Hannah Santos for second in the high jump.  Juniors Ashlyn Byrnes and Hannah Santos continued their excellent seasons as Byrnes won the two mile and Santos cleared 5' to place first in the high jump. Skyler Demoranville came in second in both the mile and the 100 while Deanna Brighman placed in both the 55 and the 300. Bouchard and Santos each qualified for this Saturday's Coaches Invitational.

Boys Indoor Track: Case vs. Bourne

SCORE: Case, 43, Bourne 22

LOCATION: Greater New Bedford

DATE: Jan. 25

RECORD: Case, 1-4

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cardinals captured their first win of the season, beating league opponent Bourne at Greater New Bedford Wednesday. Senior Devin Silva won the 55, the 300 meter dash and high jump for Case. Silva will compete at the Coaches Invitational this Saturday. Jacob Janicki set a new personal-record, winning the shot put with a throw of 40'10".  Ben Fortier crossed the line first in the hurdles while Ben Resendes took first place in both the mile and the 1000. Logan Prazenes placed second place in the 1000. Nathan Viveiros took second in the 300 and third in the 55. Senior Ethan Heilborn was third in the shot put.
