Sport shorts: Medina/PB volleyball sweeps by Kidder County

Sep. 30—MEDINA — Kidder County simply didn't have any answers for Medina/Pingree Buchanan Thursday evening.

Medina/PB cruised to a 3-0 win over its Region 3, District 6 rival to improve to 1-2 in the District 6 standings and 4-2 in Region 3.

Allison Thomas paced the Thunder's offense with 21 kills while Maddie Gefroh pitched in another 11. The Thunder had 19 more kills on the stat sheet than Kidder County.

Gefroh came up in a big way up front and from the backline. The sophomore middle had three stops at the net and delivered four aces from the service line. She also popped up five digs.

Avery Rath and Kennedy Harter combined for 18 kills. The duo also led in the back row with Harter notching 29 digs while Rath was credited with 18 balls saved.

Medina/PB will visit Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter on Monday. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.

Kidder County is scheduled to travel to Strasburg/Zeeland on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. contest.

Ellendale pulled out a 27-25 win to begin the team's matchup against Wyndmere/Lidgerwood but that's where the momentum stopped.

The Cardinals dropped 3-1 to Wyndmere/Lidgerwood. Ellendale will be on the road at Linton on Tuesday. The region tilt is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Avery Rotondi and Ariel Hagen both cracked into double digits for their kill counts with Rotondi hitting 11 and Hagen smashing 10.

Shelby Miller kept the Cardinals in the game with 40 digs while Olivia Hagen served up three aces

LaMoure/LM survived the second set upset Enderlin pitched Thursday evening.

The Loboes defeated Enderlin 3-1 to maintain its No. 2 position in the Region 3, District 5 standings. The Loboes will head to Edgeley on Tuesday where they will take on EKM at 7 p.m.

Heidi Steffes appeared to be gunning for a big number in the kill column Thursday. The junior smashed home 18 to lead the Loboes' offensive efforts. Tessa Rasmusson and Izzy Miller combined for another 12 kills while eight more came from either Nateal Rodin, Bailie Kelley or Savanna Steffes.

While Steffes led the offense, it was Cassie Quinlan who led the back row. The libero popped up 25 digs to setters Kelley and Lexi Linebaugh. The libero was also responsible for four aces that got past the Eagles defenses.
