Spartanburg County schools announce digital learning day due to winter weather

In-person learning for students in Spartanburg County school districts has been cancelled for Tuesday, as road clearing and clean-up continue in most areas throughout the county.

Due to the current weather and road conditions, all Spartanburg County school districts announced that Tuesday will be an e-learning day. According to the National Weather Service, the major concern is overnight freezing temperatures causing widespread black ice, making some roads impassable.

Office buildings in all districts will also be closed and all activities, including athletic events and field trips, have been canceled.

Oakbrook Preparatory School will be closed Tuesday, January. 18. Students are encouraged to enjoy their snow day and check back for any further announcements.

Spartanburg Day School's campus will be closed Tuesday, January 18 and Wednesday, January 19 due to the impact of the winter storm. All classes and activities are cancelled Tuesday. Wednesday will be a distance learning day for students.

Spartanburg Christian Academy and offices will be closed Tuesday, January 18.

College and University closings due to inclement weather

Spartanburg Community College has announced all of their campuses are closed for day and evening classes on Tuesday, January 18, due to inclement weather.

Spartanburg Methodist College on-campus classes and administrative offices will be closed on Tuesday, January 18.

University of South Carolina Upstate will hold all classes remotely on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Due to the potential for hazardous road conditions, Converse University will operate remotely on Tuesday, January 18.

A Winter Storm Warning remained in effect until 8 a.m. Monday. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing until late Monday morning and reach a high of around 40 degrees and sunny for the afternoon before refreezing again in the evening and overnight.

The National Weather Service said Sunday's storm broke the daily maximum snowfall record with 6.5". The previous record of 5.7" was set in 1965.
