Southeast school board approves $5.3M contract for roof, foundation of new K-12 building
APPLE CREEK – Members of the Southeast Local Schools Board of Education approved a second construction contract for the district's new kindergarten-through 12th-grade building during a special meeting Wednesday.
The $5.29 million contract was awarded to the district's construction manager, CT Taylor Construction, and will cover the foundations, joist and deck materials and roofing packages, Treasurer Mark Dickerhoof said.
With CT Taylor taking on the foundation work, Dickerhoof said, the company plans to sub-bid the roofing project and joist and deck work to Fox Enterprises Services and Gooder-Henrichsen Company respectively.

This approval comes after the district broke ground on the roughly 170,000-square-foot school earlier this summer and approved the plans created by BSHM Architects this past spring.
As the ground was prepped over the summer for foundation work, Dickerhoof said, the district has not had any setbacks.
"The biggest unknown when you do a project is what's under the ground," Dickerhoof said. "We've been lucky there's been no surprises underground, (because) if you have surprise it could raise the price and slow you down."

Moving forward, Dickerhoof said, the architects at BHSM and the construction manager will continue to review details of the building drawings before sending any changes or contracts to the board.
Dickerhoof predicts the earliest the board will approve any more contracts or changes is September or October.
