Southbound Maine Turnpike traffic in Scarborough to be disrupted tonight to clear propane truck

Dec. 7—State police plan to stop southbound traffic at Exit 42 on the Maine Turnpike for about 30 minutes sometime between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 1 a.m. Thursday to complete the removal of propane from a truck that rolled over Wednesday morning.

In a warning posted Wednesday evening on Twitter, Maine State Police said the propane has been offloaded, but in order to purge propane from the lines of the tanker police will need to stop traffic at Exit 42B in Scarborough.

The crash forced Maine State Police to close the southbound on-ramp in Scarborough Wednesday morning, snarling traffic and causing delays that stretched into the evening commute. State police asked motorists to avoid using the southbound stretch of the turnpike near Exit 42B on Wednesday night.

Maine State Police said the tank on the truck did not leak, but that workers needed several hours to pump propane from the tanker.

The truck driver was taken to a hospital for evaluation after the crash. Police have not released any information about the driver or what may have caused the rollover.
