Some confusion with time zones made Jarome Iginla's Hall of Fame call very lonely
Finding out you’re headed to the Hall of Fame is among the great moments in an athlete’s life, and something that should be shared with as many loved ones as possible. Unfortunately for Jarome Iginla, a time zone mix-up got in the way.
The Calgary Flames great was officially announced to be headed to the Hockey Hall of Fame on Wednesday.
For the occasion, Iginla told reporters he wanted to have his whole family with him when he got the call from Hall of Fame chairman Lanny McDonald. Instead, Iginla was accompanied by ... an empty car.
Iginla hoped to have his whole family together when HHOF chairman Lanny McDonald called. But like me he got mixed up with time zones, so Iginla was alone in his car when he got the news.

Oh well, at least Iginla’s family had plenty to instantly celebrate if they were able to get together later.
Iginla will receive enshrinement in his first year of eligibility, a recognition of two decades of strong play highlighted by two Rocket Richard Trophies, an Art Ross Trophy and a Mark Messier Leadership Award. Iginla — the Flames’ all-time leader in goals, points and games played — will be the fourth Black player to be elected to the Hall.
The 2020 Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 13 in Toronto, though that could obviously change depending on the state of the coronavirus pandemic. The Basketball and Baseball Hall of Fame have both delayed their induction ceremonies this year.
