May 24—EDEN VALLEY — Tenth-seeded Paynesville beat seventh-seeded Eden Valley-Watkins in the first round of the Section 6AA softball playoffs Monday in Eden Valley.

Paynesville (11-9) plays second-seeded Pierz at 5 p.m. Tuesday at River's Edge Park in Waite Park in the second round.

"We played well," said Paynesville head coach Zach Nelson. "I mean we certainly played how we are capable of. We actually left quite a few runs on the bases again. It's pretty easy when they catch the ball and make the easy plays. We played really well."

Paynesville played errorless ball. Catcher Arianna Messer threw out two runners attempting to steal.

Kaydence Roeske went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI for the Bulldogs. Kianna Brooks was 3-for-4 with two RBI and winning pitcher Maddy McNab was 3-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and two runs. McNab scattered eight hits. She struck out two and walked two, allowing eight hits.
