SOFTBALL: Norwalk slips past Western Reserve in home win

Apr. 11—NORWALK — The Norwalk softball team was limited to just three hits in Saturday's non-conference game against visiting Western Reserve, but did enough to come away with a 4-2 win over the Roughriders at Norwalk High School.

Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Norwalk's Sophia Bores was hit by a pitch, Callie Helton singled and Meadow Muratori walked to load the bases with one out.

After a strikeout, the Truckers (2-9) scored three runs. Hayleigh Mills drew a bases loaded walk, then Helton and Muratori scored on the same passed ball to extend the Norwalk lead to 4-0.

Western (0-7) got a pair of runs back in the top of the fifth when Grace Elkin doubled in Sydnie Prince, who had singled, and pinch runner Gracie Hartman scored on a passed ball.

But Norwalk pitcher Cossondra Shinski shut the door from there en route to a complete game. She allowed the two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk in seven innings.

Mills added a double and Bores had a single for Norwalk.

Elkin finished 2 for 3 with the RBI for Western, with Jesse Riley, Jocelyn Charville and Breanna Reep each adding singles. Prince took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.

NORWALK — The visiting Chargers improved to 8-1 overall on Saturday with a pair of run-rule wins over the host Lady Flyers.

In a 15-4 win in Game 1, Reagan King was 3 for 5 with an RBI and Madison Chaput was 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for Edison.

Mallory Perkins was 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Kira Appeman and Kalli Quillen each had a single and an RBI.

In the circle, Appeman pitched all six innings for the win. She allowed two earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts and a walk.

Presley Stang did most of the damage for the Lady Flyers (2-8), as she finished 2 for 3 with a triple, a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Sammy Lippert added a double, and Elena Penner, Morgan Baxter and Josalyn Vazquez each singled.

In an 18-2 win in Game 2, Sophia Guerra was 4 for 5 with a double, four RBIs and three runs scored. Perkins was 4 for 5 with three RBIs, while Audrey Linder and Elena McCord both finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Quillen also added two hits and three RBIs.

Kayla Mancuso pitched five innings and allowed a pair of unearned runs on two hits in the circle for the Chargers. She struck out three and walked one.

Marlaina Sowers doubled with an RBI and Vazquez singled in the defeat for St. Paul.

MONROEVILLE — The Eagles improved to 8-0 with a dominating doubleheader sweep in which they outscored the visiting Raiders by a 26-0 score.

In a 9-0 win in Game 1, Abbi Poths was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, while Brooklyn Schaffer was 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs. Sydney Meisner and Grace Tonelli each added two hits, while Payton and Emily Scheid each added a single and an RBI.

In the circle, Payton Scheid went all seven innings for the four-hit shutout. She struck out 13 and walked two.

In Game 2, the Eagles scored 10 runs in the first inning in a 17-0 win in five innings. Payton Scheid was 3 for 3 with a double, a triple and three RBIs to lead the Monroeville offense. Poths added two hits, including a double, and an RBI, while Tonelli and Ava Krueger each singled with an RBI.

Camryn Scheid pitched four scoreless innings for the win, allowing two hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes fell to 5-7 overall following a pair of run-rule losses to visiting Ontario on Saturday in a non-league doubleheader.

In Game 1, Macey Robinson was 2 for 3 with a run scored, while Natalie Rothhaar singled and drove in a run. Cassidy Hamons and Kaylee Davis each added a single.

In the second game, Kalli Sowers was 2 for 3, while Lauren Hall and Robinson each added a single.
