SoDak 16 fills in for Class A and B girls basketball

Feb. 26—With the postseason field narrowing to 16 teams, girls basketball teams around South Dakota are making plans for the SoDak 16 on March 4.

Eight Class B games are scheduled for Thursday, March 4 at sites around the state. Among the area matchups includes third-seeded Corsica-Stickney (20-2) taking on No. 14 Timber Lake. Region 4B representatives fill out the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds, with fourth-seeded Hanson (18-3) taking on No. 13 Faith and No. 5 Ethan (19-3) facing No. 12 Faulkton Area.

The Corsica-Stickney and Hanson games will be back-to-back at the Huron Arena, with the Jaguars playing at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Beavers at 7:15 p.m.

Ethan and Faulkton Area will be part of a doubleheader of games at the Corn Palace at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, while No. 2 White River and No. 15 Aberdeen Christian will play at the Palace at 6 p.m.

Two other area schools are making their first appearance in the Class B girls basketball SoDak 16. Tenth-seeded Andes Central/Dakota Christian (17-5) will face No. 7 Viborg-Hurley at 7 p.m. in Centerville, while No. 11 Menno (15-6) meets Herreid/Selby Area at 6:30 p.m., at James Valley Christian High School in Huron.

Four Class A games are also set for March 4, with the remainder of the matchups to be finalized after Friday's games. Among the matchups includes second-seeded Winner (19-2) is seeking a third-straight trip to the Class A state tournament and will face No. 15 Tri-Valley, which upset a previous state championship contender West Central on Feb. 25. The Warriors and Mustangs will play at 6:30 p.m. March 4 in Wagner.

No. 10 McCook Central/Montrose, No. 11 Parkston are locked into their seeds in Class A but are awaiting the result of Friday's Region 3A semifinal between Sioux Falls Christian and Garretson, which will decide the 16th and final team in the SoDak 16.

The final Class A sites and game times for the SoDak 16 are expected to be announced at the conclusion of the Feb. 26 games.

The rest of the Class A SoDak 16 will include Belle Fourche (17-4), Hill City (16-4), Dakota Valley (15-5) and Tea Area (16-6), and the winner of Sioux Falls Christian-Garretson in Region 3A.
