The Amarillo bats could not stay hot as the Sod Poodles dropped their Independence Day road matchup 5-3 to the Wichita Wind Surge.

Amarillo was 6-for-33 (.182) overall at the plate and 1-for-13 (.077) with a runner in scoring position as the Soddies lost their first game against Wichita this season.

Arizona's No. 8 prospect Brandon Pfaadt (5-5, 4.54 ERA) was handed the loss after allowing five runs (all earned) on eight hits with eight strikeouts across the game's first five innings.

He was replaced on the mound by relievers Josh Green (1 IP, 2 H, 1 SO), Ty Tice (1 IP, 2 SO) and Cam Booser (1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 SO). That trio allowed zero runs on three hits in the final three innings of action, however; the Sod Poodles offense could not take advantage late.

Amarillo's runs were scored on an RBI double by catcher Juan Centeno in the first inning, an RBI double by shortstop Blaze Alexander in the third, and a passed ball to score first baseman Andy Yerzy in the seventh.

Wichita right fielder Matt Wallner hit two home runs in the game and finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. First baseman Chris Williams also homered and four members of the Wind Surge lineup ended the game with multiple hits.

Starting pitcher Daniel Gossett (1-1, 1.96 ERA) earned the win after allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in five innings. The reliever quartet of Andrew Cabezas (1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB), Osiris German (1 IP), Steven Klimek (1 IP, 1 H), and Steven Cruz (1 IP, 1 SO) allowed two hits in the game's final four innings.
