Society of Great River Poets: Thinking About A Pandemic

Thinking About A Pandemic

To all who have lost friends or family,

Grandparents who have missed hugging,

long for grandchildren to come for a visit,

see the smiles on their faces,

tell them about things in the past,

or go to an event,

cheering them on at a ballgame,

Thank Covid 19

When an uncle wants to share life stories,

go to a special event to cheer you on in person,

to share with you a hug, but can’t before he passes,

and you ache, full of hurt and sorrow

Thank Covid 19

If, because of health reasons, you can’t meet with friends,

talk about like’s issues, swap stories over a common table,

yack about sports or family, share moments that make you laugh,

while other friends may pass away

Thank Covid 19

Look up and you may see them again in Heaven.

Volunteer

When people want to volunteer their time

to help out the community

Like helping out at the animal shelter

giving food and cleaning cages where the animals live

and giving the animals love and care

and helping the animals find a home where they can be happy.

Some people volunteer their time

to help people learn how to read and write,

opening new doors and new paths in life for them.

Some people volunteer their time

for meals on wheels from door to door

or care for the community and people

and some become friends for life.

Some people volunteer for boys and girls club

sharing wisdom about life and how much they care about being kind.

People volunteer many other ways

like going through clothes and pricing things at thrift stores.

People who help in the community are lights that shine bright.
