Smoke Darkens Sky Above Central Texas as Mesquite Heat Fire Spreads

Smoke billowing from the Mesquite Heat Fire burning in Central Texas darkened the sky above Buffalo Gap on Wednesday, May 18.

Authorities reported the fire, which started on May 17, had grown to 1,500 acres on Wednesday and was 0 per cent contained. Authorities said there were “confirmed reports of structures destroyed and damaged” by the fire and that a post-fire assessment team had been mobilized.
