Six Berks League players, one Boyertown player earn All-State softball honors

Jul. 1—Six players from the Berks Softball League and one player from Boyertown have been named to the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association All-State teams.

Receiving honors were Oley Valley first baseman Cassidy Drobek and Kutztown outfielders Sadie Berger and Caitlyn Lubak, first-team picks in Class 3A; Exeter shortstop Haley Speicher, first team in Class 5A; Exeter pitcher Morgan Herb, second team in Class 5A; Boyertown outfielder Alyx Morgan and Gov. Mifflin utility player Sophia Schmehl, both first team in Class 6A.

The teams were selected following more than 400 nominations by high school coaches and media members statewide. The nominations were then voted on by a committee, which picked a first and second team from each of the six classifications.

Drobek, a senior, hit .525 with a .586 on-base percentage, six home runs and 37 RBIs for the Lynx.

Lubak, a senior, and Berger, a freshman, helped the Cougars win the District 3 Class 3A title. Lubak hit .553 with 11 doubles, 27 RBIs and 34 runs scored. Berger hit .432.

Speicher, the Berks Player of the Year, and Herb helped the Eagles win the Berks and District 3 Class 5A championships. Speicher, a senior, hit .568 with 26 RBIs and 49 runs scored.

Herb, a junior, went 18-4 with a 2.25 ERA and 180 strikeouts. She hit .368 with nine doubles and 16 RBIs.

Morgan, a senior, helped the Bears win their first PAC championship since 2011 and was a first-team selection in the PAC Liberty Division.

Schmehl, a junior, hit .615 with seven doubles, 20 RBIs and 18 runs for the Mustangs.
